Taiwan's corporate sustainability breaks through on the international stage! Domestic industry, government, academia, and research sectors have joined forces to create the Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals (A•SDGs), which recently held the Global Corporate Sustainability Forum (GCSF) at the Grand Hotel, Taipei, featuring exceptional contents revealing the diverse sectoral successes of Taiwan's promotion of sustainable development, and successfully launching Taiwan's enhanced presence on the global stage.
Global climate change poses tremendous threats and challenges to global environmental sustainability, so in August of this year, domestic industry, government, academia, and research sectors established the A•SDGs, in response to the SDGs, thereby comprehensively enhancing Taiwan's sustainability competitiveness.
The Convenor of the A•SDGs, Ambassador Eugene Chien noted that 2018 has been a remarkable year for corporate sustainability breakthroughs, with the formation of the Forum, representing the integration of past individual corporate and institutional efforts for a united global vision of cooperation and collaboration in conjunction with renowned universities and research institutions, so the A•SDGs is working hard to invest resources into CSR related studies, and successfully strengthen industry, academia, and research capabilities.
The first GCSF held in Taiwan heralds the arrival of Taiwan regional sustainability highlights to the international level, signifying corporate resolve to promote CSR, and the assiduous efforts of all agencies and the non-profit sector accelerating trend towards fulfilling social responsibility and sustainable development.
The Forum diverse and engaging activities included the involvement of numerous organizations, institutions and academia; including the ICLEI Local Governments for Sustainability, the British Standards Institute BSI Taiwan, the National Taipei University College of Business, and domestic and international CSR/SDGs series of lectures, the Third Annual CSR Academic Papers Awards, and the Second Cohort of the Corporate Sustainability Manager certification ceremonies.
The first 2018 GCSA recognized HPE Sustainability Director Christopher Wellise, and AU Optronics Chairman Shuang-Liang Peng, who shared in the GCSA Outstanding Sustainability Professional Award; and in the corporate category, the winners were Siemens Aktiengesellschaft, HPE, Far Eastern New Century Corporation and Sinyi Realty Inc.
The Eleventh TCSA garnered domestic attention as the leading CSR event in Taiwan, with 435 volunteer judges participating in the evaluations and judging, and the results indicated Taiwan's corporate sustainability efficacy continues to be accelerating at a fast pace, with globally recognized performance; the Awards also launched recognition for domestic Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs) for the first-time, certainly positively contributing to the definitive encouragement of Taiwan's overall value chain sustainability efficacy and standards.
The event organizers noted that there were academics and professional experts from over 10 countries and regions, with nearly 100 distinguished international participants, and 2,100 in attendance, ensuring the global and domestic success of the Forum, for record new levels of participation, evincing domestic efforts in the SDGs and CSR trends continue to achieve parity with and attain international harmonization.
